Alocasia maharani also referred to as "Grey Dragon" is a jewel Alocasia or miniature elephant ear similar to Alocasia Black Velvet.  These plants generally stay on the smaller side, usually only reaching heights of 1-2 feet.

Alocasia maharani has very unique grey foliage with a rough, almost pebbly texture.  While commonly confused with Alocasia Melo, this species is different because Alocasia maharani grows a bit larger and has less of a rough texture.

Caring for your new elephant ear is relatively simple.  This particular species prefers a well draining soil rich in organic matter.  Allow your new plant to dry out slightly between watering as Alocasia prefer not to have wet feet.

Additional information:

Alocasia is a genus of plants in the Aroid family native to many parts of Asia including but not limited to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia.

There are at least 90 officially recognized Alocasia species, with more discovered and properly named every year. Alocasia come in all sizes, from small to large. Jewel types like Black Velvet tend to stay on the bushier, more compact side.

Alocasia are rhizomatous or tuberous and self reproduce from corms.

Alocasia can go dormant during the cooler months, so try to provide your plant with temperatures above 50deg to ensure that they stay happy and healthy during this period.
