Care

 Bright indirect light

Water when soil is mostly dry

 Loves humidity

Alocasia Stingray is collected for its uniquely shaped foliage, from which it gets its name.  The leaves on this elephant ear species have a long and narrow tip which resembles the tail of a stingray.

Alocasia macrorrhiza Stingray can grow up to 10' if grown outside.  If kept as an indoor plant, Alocasia Stingray will be a manageable size.

Alocasia Stingray care:

This plant prefers a well draining soil rich in organic matter.  Allow your plant to dry out between watering as they don't like to sit in water.  These plants do best in bright indirect light but will tolerate lower light levels.

Additional information:

Alocasia is a genus of plants in the Aroid family native to many parts of Asia including but not limited to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia.

There are at least 90 officially recognized Alocasia species, with more discovered and properly named every year. Alocasia come in all sizes, from small to large. Jewel types like Black Velvet tend to stay on the bushier, more compact side.

Alocasia are rhizomatous or tuberous and self reproduce from corms.

Alocasia can go dormant during the cooler months, so try to provide your plant with temperatures above 50deg to ensure that they stay happy and healthy during this period.

Arrived beautifully!

I bought two stingrays and they were both individually wrapped with care and it showed! Also, the plants came in perfect condition. No yellowing of any sort. Both had 4 healthy stems and leaves. I can’t say for other people but from my online purchase experience, mine exceeded expectations. I’ve bought plants from other online sources and I’ve always had bad experiences with dead or plants in poor condition (rotting, yellowing, poor packaging, etc). Thanks Canopy!

Stingray

One of my first alocasia. Lost a few leaves after transit but it got really dry so hopefully it bounces back! Seemed like it was packaged with care

Sounds like it’s in good hands now! Here’s to a strong comeback and plenty of new leaves.
