Alocasia reginula 'Black Velvet' variegated has thick black, velvety leaves with prominent white veining that displays beautiful splashes of white and pink variegation.
This species of elephant ear has a compact growth habit and will generally only reach a height of about 3-4' tall.
Alocasia Black Velvet variegated is an indoor plant similar to Maharani, but without the bullate textured leaves.
Caring for your new Alocasia plant is simple as they require little attention. We recommend keeping your Alocasia Black Velvet variegated in a soil that is well draining and rich in organic matter. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. If your Alocasia Black Velvet variegated leaves begin to curl inward or droop, this is a sign that your plant needs to be watered.

Alocasia is a genus of plants in the Aroid family native to many parts of Asia including but not limited to Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia.
There are at least 90 officially recognized Alocasia species, with more discovered and properly named every year. Alocasia come in all sizes, from small to large. Jewel types like Black Velvet tend to stay on the bushier, more compact side.
Alocasia are rhizomatous or tuberous and self reproduce from corms.
Alocasia can go dormant during the cooler months, so try to provide your plant with temperatures above 50deg to ensure that they stay happy and healthy during this period.

I received this Alocasia Black Velvet Pink variegated a few weeks ago. It came well packaged and in great condition! She did drop a leaf but that’s normal for diva alocasias and she is looking great now. Canopy’s customer service is also amazing. They are responsive, informative and quickly corrected a goof I made during ordering. I have ordered many times from them and will continue to do so! A very happy customer!

I received this plant about a week ago. It’s a beauty already pushing out a new leaf. Can’t wait to watch her grow!
I’ve had this planned exactly a month now. I was a little worried when I got it, it seemed a little juvenile, I repotted it and put it in a humid nursery box and the growth I’m getting is absolutely astounding. It now has six leaves and the newer ones are coming in bigger and more variegated than the last ones. I’m attaching a picture here, but the picture is not doing it justice. The colors in real life are much more vibrant. In the acrylic box, it’s getting humidity consistently over 70%, and I have a ring grow light sitting outside the box directly over it.

At first, I was a little worried about if it would survive because it was so wilted and sad but gave it some time and it perked up and looks great!
This is the most expensive plant I have purchased. I know others have spent a significant amount on plants but for me, this is a lot of money. I ordered a cloche specifically for her because of the purchase and how much I want her to thrive! There is some pink but I am hoping more pink comes through with future leaves.
