    Loved by plant people

Hoya nabawanensis has small, tear shaped leaves and is a quick grower. This species is native to areas of Borneo.

This is a relatively quick growing Hoya that is fairly uncommon.  It produces small clusters of lowers that are light pink with a yellow corona.

Hoya nabawanensis care:

This wax plant is incredibly easy to care for.  Provide it with bright indirect light and water when the soil is about half way dry.  In its natural habitat, it is found growing in wet, humid areas, so a little extra humidity wouldn't hurt -- but it isn't required.

Additional Hoya information:

Hoya, commonly referred to as "Wax Plant" is a genus consisting of over 500 species.

Hoyas are widely cultivated for their aromatic blooms and unique foliage.

They are native to tropical and subtropical areas all around the world. They can be found in Latin America, Asia, Australia, etc.

Mostly epiphytic, you'll find Hoyas love to climb trees in their natural habitats.

Hoyas have a large range of foliage shapes and textures. They can be found with elongated, deeply veined leaves to thin, narrow leaves and everything in between.

Most Hoya plants can be considered easy to care for. Here at Canopy Plant Co., we only ship the healthiest Hoyas from our Apopka greenhouse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Hoyas pet friendly?

Yes! Hoyas are pet friendly, but we don't recommend letting pets chew on them as the plant could still cause minor reactions.

How often should I water my Hoya?

Hoyas generally prefer to remain slightly moist, with the top 1-2" of soil being dry to the touch. Some Hoya species and cultivars prefer more or less watering. If you need watering instructions for a specific Hoya plant, please reach out to us via email - help@canopyplantco.com. We're always happy to help!

How much light does my Hoya need?

Hoyas are happiest in bright indirect light. Some Hoya plants will produce red, pink or purple tinged leaves if placed in an area where they receive a few hours of direct morning sun. Hoyas cannot tolerate direct sun for an extended amount of time, especially direct afternoon sun.

When will I know when to repot my Hoya?

If your Hoya needs to be watered more than usual or if roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot - these are good signs that your Hoya needs to be repotted. We recommend going up to the next pot size instead of making a large jump in pot size. Contrary to popular belief, Hoyas do not prefer to be rootbound in their pots.

How do I get my Hoya to bloom?

Provide suitable bright indirect light, allow the plant to mature, and retain old peduncles. Bloom timing and environmental cues vary greatly by species.

Why are my Hoya leaves wrinkly, soft or yellowing?

Wrinkling can indicate dehydration, including dehydration caused by damaged roots. Yellow or soft leaves warrant checking for overly wet soil and root rot.

Why is my Hoya producing long vines with no leaves?

Many climbing Hoyas produce exploratory vines before leaves develop. Leave a healthy growth point intact; persistent sparse growth also warrants checking light and other environmental conditions.
