Care

 Bright indirect light

Allow soil to dry almost completely between watering

Monstera deliciosa — the iconic "Swiss Cheese Plant" — is one of the most recognizable and beloved houseplants in the world, and for good reason. Native to the tropical rainforests of Central America, this architectural beauty produces large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves that develop dramatic fenestrations (natural splits and holes) as the plant matures. Each new leaf is a small event: larger, more perforated, and more impressive than the last.

Monstera deliciosa is a natural climber. Providing a coco pole or moss pole encourages the plant to grow upward, producing larger leaves with more pronounced fenestrations faster than a plant left to trail. It’s a statement piece that grows with you — a plant you’ll have for years, not months.

Care guide: Monstera deliciosa thrives in bright to medium indirect light — avoid prolonged direct sun, which can scorch the leaves. Plant in a well-draining, chunky aroid mix rich in organic matter. Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings; Monstera do not like sitting in excess water. Average household humidity is fine, though higher humidity encourages faster, lusher growth. Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer.

Additional information:

Monstera, also referred to as "Swiss Cheese Plant", are a type of aroid native to many different countries in Latin America. Monstera can be found growing in its natural habitat in Costa Rica, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, etc.

In the wild, Monstera have a variety of growth habits. They can climb or spread as ground cover. If they are allowed to climb, Monstera leaves will become much larger and begin to fenestrate. They are semi-epiphytic.

Monstera can grow in low indirect light but prefer medium to bright indirect light. If grown in low light conditions their growth will slow.

They tend to be easy to care for and make a great addition to any houseplant collection.
