Care

 Bright indirect light

Water when top 1-2" of soil is dry

Philodendron Dean McDowell is a hybrid of two very popular indoor plants, Philodendron gloriosum and Philodendron pastazanum.  This particular species is an easy care plant that needs little attention.

Philodendron Dean McDowell has a terrestrial growth habit, which means that it will grow along the top of the soil.  This plant will not climb so make sure you can provide it with ample space to grow.  The leaves on Philodendron Dean McDowell can reach a width of 3-4' when mature, but as an indoor plant the leaves will likely stay a bit smaller -- around 1-2' in width.

Philodendron Dean McDowell care:

Make sure your plant is in a well draining soil that is rich in organic matter.  Allow the soil to dry out almost completely before watering, taking care to not allow it to sit in excess water.  Provide it with bright indirect light.

Additional info:

Philodendron is one of the most popular genuses of Aroid that are currently in cultivation, with over 450 named cultivars.

Philodendron vary greatly in their natural habits, but you will find a large number of them located in Latin America. Their leaves range from small to medium to large to gigantic! You'll find Philodendron with smooth, glossy foliage and some with velvety foliage!

If you allow Philodendron to climb, their foliage will usually get much larger the higher up they get. While this isn't true for all Philodendron species -- it is for most. We recommend a coco pole to really get your Philodendron growing!

For the most part, Philodendron are easy to care for.

The name Philodendron comes from the greek words "philo" (love or affection) and "dendron" (tree).

Small but amazing

I didn't really pay attention that the plant was only a 2". I was disappointed at first but no fault to Canopy. Now that I have repotted it, the plant is so cute. I can not wait for it to grow. It is healthy.

She's climbing

I know this is supposed to be a crawling philodendron, I have another Dean McDowell that is crawling, but this one from Canopy Plants wants to climb. So, I put her on a pole and we'll see what happens. She did come with a plug around her roots which I removed. The roots look to be very healthy.

I bought her on 12-7 for $19.99 and now, on 12-29 she's $13.99. That's a bit annoying...
