Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) is widely known for their uniquely shaped flowers that closely resemble a bird in flight! These tropical shrubs are found in abundance growing outside as landscaping in tropical to sub-tropical areas of the United States.
The foliage is green, oblong and paddle shaped. As an indoor plant, if given the correct amount of light, Bird of Paradise can grow up to 6-8' tall! When grown outside, you can expect your plant to reach a height of at least 10' tall!
Caring for your Bird of Paradise is relatively simple but make sure you can provide enough light for it! These plants prefer a well draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Allow your plant to dry out almost completely between watering, taking care to not allow it to sit in excess water. Provide your plant with very bright indirect light -- even some direct morning sun is perfectly ok!
Ordered 5 plants and so far they all made it except for my squamiferum, the one I was MOST excited about. That one started to yellow on the leaves and then they all fell off. The rest of my plants are doing great though. I will order from them again in the spring and summer.
