Striking and sculptural, Sulcorebutia rauschii is a rare gem among cacti, treasured for its vibrant coloration and clustered form. This compact species forms tight clumps of rounded stems, each covered in intricate spirals of tubercles and short, dark spines. Depending on the variety, the stems can appear deep purple, violet, or even bluish-green — often intensifying with sun exposure.
Native to the high altitude regions of Bolivia, this cold hardy cactus thrives in bright light and dry conditions. In spring or early summer, it may surprise you with bright magenta flowers that contrast beautifully with its moody tones.
Sulcorebutia rauschii care:
This plant prefers a very well draining soil that is rich in organic matter. Allow the soil to dry out completely before watering, taking care to not allow the plant to sit in excess water for an extended period at any point. Provide your Sulcorebutia rauschii with plenty of bright indirect light. This plant can take quite a bit of morning/early afternoon direct light.
