Begonia maculata is a very popular species of cane Begonia.  The foliage on this species is well known for the silver polka dots all over the leaf surface.  The leaves tend to be an olive green, while the underside of the leaf is a deep red or burgundy.

Begonia maculata make the perfect indoor plant.  Their unique foliage will mesmerize anyone who gazes upon it!  These plants generally grow to about 3-4' inside your home.  If placed outside in a warm, shaded area, they can easily turn into small bushes!

Begonia maculata care:

This particular Begonia species prefers a well draining soil that is rich in organic matter.  Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between watering, taking care to not allow it to sit in excess water.  Provide it with bright indirect light.

Additional information:

Begonia is a genus of over 2,000 largely diverse species. While known for their colorful flowers, some Begonia species are cultivated for their unique foliage.

Most Begonias are native to tropical and subtropical regions.

Rex and cane type Begonias tend to be the most popular and widely used as houseplants. There are numerous other types, some needing more humidity than others.

Begonia Maculata

The plant came well packaged but still got a bit dehydrated in transit and I lost two crispy leaves but after I cut them, the plant is thriving and I see 4 new growth points already. A new leaf is just waiting to emerge as well! I love watching how quickly growth happens!
