Perlite is a non-crystalline form of volcanic glass that expands and becomes porous when heated to 1600F. The water molecules trapped inside the rock turn to vapor and cause the kernel to expand just like popcorn!

Can be added to any other growing media to improve texture, aeration and drainage
Finding the right sized perlite is tricky, but this is a great size and the bag is a decent size. This lasted through several re-pottings

Interesting stuff
I've bought perlite on Amazon before, and so much of it was dust. That was disappointing. This stuff is hearty, chunky perlite. I'm much happier with it.
