Hoya RHM14-1 is an unclassified collector Hoya — one of those rare, unnamed species that circulates in the enthusiast community under a collector code before a formal botanical description is ever published. What it lacks in a Latin name it more than makes up for in foliage: this species produces distinctive leaves with the characteristic waxy texture of the Hoya genus, and its collector-code status makes it a genuine conversation piece for anyone who follows the Hoya world closely. Owning a plant before it has a name is a particular pleasure reserved for serious collectors.
Like all Hoyas, RHM14-1 is a vining species that trails and climbs with ease. It performs beautifully in a hanging basket, cascading over the sides, or can be trained up a small trellis for a more upright display. As with many unclassified Hoyas, part of the appeal is watching the plant develop over time — each new leaf a small discovery.
Care guide: Bright indirect light encourages the healthiest growth and, eventually, blooming — the fragrant, star-shaped flower clusters that make Hoyas so beloved. Plant in a well-draining mix rich in organic matter. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings; Hoyas do not tolerate sitting in excess water and are far more forgiving of underwatering than overwatering. Average household humidity is fine. A rewarding, easy-care collector Hoya for enthusiasts who appreciate the rare and the not-yet-named.
Additional Hoya information:
Hoya, commonly referred to as "Wax Plant" is a genus consisting of over 500 species.
Hoyas are widely cultivated for their aromatic blooms and unique foliage.
They are native to tropical and subtropical areas all around the world. They can be found in Latin America, Asia, Australia, etc.
Mostly epiphytic, you'll find Hoyas love to climb trees in their natural habitats.
Hoyas have a large range of foliage shapes and textures. They can be found with elongated, deeply veined leaves to thin, narrow leaves and everything in between.
Most Hoya plants can be considered easy to care for. Here at Canopy Plant Co., we only ship the healthiest Hoyas from our Apopka greenhouse.
