    Loved by plant people

Hoya spartioides is an incredibly unique flowering indoor plant that has no leaves.  This plant is made up entirely of peduncles, from which blooms emerge!

Hoya spartioides care:

This plant prefers a well draining soil that is rich in organic matter.  Allow the soil to dry out almost completely before watering, taking care to not allow it to sit in excess water.  Provide your new Hoya plant with plenty of bright indirect light for optimal growth.

Additional Hoya information:

Hoya, commonly referred to as "Wax Plant" is a genus consisting of over 500 species.

Hoyas are widely cultivated for their aromatic blooms and unique foliage.

They are native to tropical and subtropical areas all around the world. They can be found in Latin America, Asia, Australia, etc.

Mostly epiphytic, you'll find Hoyas love to climb trees in their natural habitats.

Hoyas have a large range of foliage shapes and textures. They can be found with elongated, deeply veined leaves to thin, narrow leaves and everything in between.

Most Hoya plants can be considered easy to care for. Here at Canopy Plant Co., we only ship the healthiest Hoyas from our Apopka greenhouse.

Sizing information:

Plants are living organisms, so each one is unique and may vary slightly in size, fullness, color, and maturity depending on the season, growing conditions, and current availability. We do our best to match the product photos and descriptions as closely as possible while ensuring you receive a healthy, high-quality plant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Hoyas pet friendly?

Yes! Hoyas are pet friendly, but we don't recommend letting pets chew on them as the plant could still cause minor reactions.

How often should I water my Hoya?

Hoyas generally prefer to remain slightly moist, with the top 1-2" of soil being dry to the touch. Some Hoya species and cultivars prefer more or less watering. If you need watering instructions for a specific Hoya plant, please reach out to us via email - help@canopyplantco.com. We're always happy to help!

How much light does my Hoya need?

Hoyas are happiest in bright indirect light. Some Hoya plants will produce red, pink or purple tinged leaves if placed in an area where they receive a few hours of direct morning sun. Hoyas cannot tolerate direct sun for an extended amount of time, especially direct afternoon sun.

When will I know when to repot my Hoya?

If your Hoya needs to be watered more than usual or if roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot - these are good signs that your Hoya needs to be repotted. We recommend going up to the next pot size instead of making a large jump in pot size. Contrary to popular belief, Hoyas do not prefer to be rootbound in their pots.

How do I get my Hoya to bloom?

Provide suitable bright indirect light, allow the plant to mature, and retain old peduncles. Bloom timing and environmental cues vary greatly by species.

Why are my Hoya leaves wrinkly, soft or yellowing?

Wrinkling can indicate dehydration, including dehydration caused by damaged roots. Yellow or soft leaves warrant checking for overly wet soil and root rot.

Why is my Hoya producing long vines with no leaves?

Many climbing Hoyas produce exploratory vines before leaves develop. Leave a healthy growth point intact; persistent sparse growth also warrants checking light and other environmental conditions.

smaller than expected

I know this is more of a finicky Hoya so I decided to purchase two. This has been on my wish list for a long time. Unfortunately, it was smaller than I had expected based on the main photo. I have ordered from them a few times and always been happy with the plant size and the packaging is always top-notch. The photo is of both plants that I ordered planted in one pot. The one on the right has lost two “leaves” since it arrived But otherwise, arrived with only seven maybe eight leaves.

Happy Customer

First time ordering from them, this was one of my wishlist Hoya. I was surprised to find this decent size with very reasonable price. It came well packed, healthy and it is adjusting to my house condition really well. I am very happy with everything.

I was hesitant to purchase this plant due the price, but man, I'm sure glad I did! I just love him so much! He came packed extremely well and suffered no damage even though it appeared UPS played soccer with the box...thanks Canopy for attention to detail and always packing your plants with love and care. It's truly appreciated. One of my favorite purchases hands down.

Amazing

I have always wanted this Hoya but have rarely come across it and someone else has always gotten it first. Mine came with flowers though they shortly died off because I’m sure it’s home at Canopy is much more humid than my Wisconsin home
