Care

 Bright indirect light

Allow soil to dry almost completely between watering

Monstera subpinnata is one of the most distinctive and conversation-starting species in the Monstera genus. Unlike the classic fenestrated leaves of Monstera deliciosa, subpinnata produces deeply pinnate (fully divided) leaves that look remarkably like a tropical palm frond — an unusual and striking silhouette that sets it apart from every other Monstera in your collection.

Native to South America, this fast-growing climber is surprisingly easy to care for. Like all Monstera, it thrives when given a coco pole or support structure to climb — climbing encourages larger, more dramatic leaf development. Without support, it will send out leafless runners searching for something to attach to.

Care guide: Bright indirect light is ideal for optimal growth and leaf size. Plant in a well-draining, chunky aroid mix. Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings; avoid letting it sit in excess water. Tolerates average household humidity well. A fast grower that rewards consistent care with increasingly impressive foliage.

Additional information:

Monstera, also referred to as "Swiss Cheese Plant", are a type of aroid native to many different countries in Latin America. Monstera can be found growing in its natural habitat in Costa Rica, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, etc.

In the wild, Monstera have a variety of growth habits. They can climb or spread as ground cover. If they are allowed to climb, Monstera leaves will become much larger and begin to fenestrate. They are semi-epiphytic.

Monstera can grow in low indirect light but prefer medium to bright indirect light. If grown in low light conditions their growth will slow.

They tend to be easy to care for and make a great addition to any houseplant collection.
