4" Philodendron gloriosum

Philodendron gloriosum is a collector’s treasure — a terrestrial species native to Colombia that produces some of the most breathtaking foliage in the entire Philodendron genus. Its large, velvety, heart-shaped leaves are a deep matte green adorned with bold white veining that radiates outward from the center, creating an almost painted effect. The texture and scale of mature leaves make this one of the most visually commanding plants you can grow indoors.

Unlike most Philodendrons, gloriosum does not climb — it creeps horizontally along the soil surface, extending its rhizome outward as it grows. This means it needs a wide, shallow container rather than a tall one, and it will not attach to a pole. It’s a slower grower than many Philodendrons, but each new leaf is worth the wait.

Care guide: Bright indirect light brings out the best contrast in the veining; avoid low light, which dulls the foliage. Plant in a well-draining aroid mix rich in organic matter. Allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings — gloriosum does not like wet feet. Higher humidity (60%+) encourages larger, more dramatic leaves.
